I'm Haziq. I'm a medical student, and this is the tool I wanted during my first year and could not find.
The lecture arrived as a PDF. Understanding it meant rereading the slides or hunting for a video that covered the same thing. Remembering it meant making Anki cards by hand, which took longer than reviewing them. Practicing it meant hoping a question bank happened to cover what my professor had emphasised. Four tools, none of them talking to each other, and none of them starting from the lecture I was actually going to be tested on.
What I wanted was simple to say. Take the lecture I was given and hand me back the three things I need from it: an explanation that makes the mechanism make sense, cards I can review on a schedule, and questions that make me use the material. Same source, three outputs, and my evening back.
That is what SynapticRecall does. You upload a lecture as a PDF or PowerPoint. It produces a Story that walks through the lecture, an Anki deck you import into Anki, and exam-style practice questions with explanations. Every card carries the slide it came from on its back, so you can check it. You can see one real lecture run through it before you upload anything.
What it deliberately does not do
- It does not replace AnKing, UWorld, or your course's question bank. Those cover the boards. This covers the lecture your professor wrote. Most students who use it run both. Here is the honest comparison.
- It does not write NBME questions. The practice questions are study aids generated from your lecture. They are not written, reviewed, or endorsed by any examination board.
- It does not claim to be right every time. It can miss a detail or put the emphasis in the wrong place. That is why the source slide sits on the back of every card and beside every explanation, and why the FAQ says to check it.
- It is not for patient care. It is a study tool.
How it is built
The outputs are generated by large language models working from the text and slide images of your lecture. The prompts are written and revised by me, against real lectures, with the rules a careful student would use: cover the learning objectives first, follow what the professor repeats or checks with a question, stay under a sensible number of cards per slide, and never invent a fact the slides do not support.
It runs on our own servers. Your uploads are used to make the materials you asked for and are not used to train a public model. The privacy policy has the details on storage and the services involved.
It is used by students in dense, lecture-based programmes: medical, nursing, PA, PT, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, and undergraduate science. The level selector on the upload page adjusts how the Story and the questions are framed. The lecture stays the source of truth.
